New Animated Zombie Movie A.D. Brings The Awesome

Take a look at the trailer; only 10 days old.

I’m absolutely excited about this movie.  The atmosphere in the trailer is incredible and intrigues me to learn more about this world and what happened.  It also raises a lot of questions:  When is it coming out?  Is it a full-length film?  Does it still exist or is it a dropped project?  Will there be fast or slow-moving zombies?

To answer these questions, I turn to my good friend Google.  Unfortunately, A.D. is a somewhat generic title that does not product search results very well.  This could also be due to the fact that little to no information is available on the title.  I did however come across an interview from ZombieInfo.com that answers a few burning questions.

There are four main heads in the project:  Ben Hibon, director; Haylar Garcia, writer; Bernie Goldmann, producer; Tarik Heitmann, producer.  These gentleman have taken part in a number of projects ranging from indie favorite Freddy vs Ghostbusters to The Matrix and 300.  The team are looking to create a full-length feature film and hopefully they will see this through.  Due to the recent resurgence of zombies in movies and video games, they believe it will be easier than ever before to make this a hit movie.  Bernie states that “The zombie genre could use some reinvention,” which begs the question “What is different about this movie?”

From the trailer, we can gather that the animation makes the movie stand out.  Secondly, the film doesn’t seem to take place in one strict place.  Most zombie films end up with the survivors taking shelter in some building until the big attack at the end of the movie.  The two characters in the teaser are out in the open, presumably traveling somewhere, killing off the zombie horde the entire way. Haylar states this epic scope is one of the goals they aspire to in making this film:

One day I realized that almost all zombie films, though cool, seemed to have such a modest scope. I suddenly wanted to write a screenplay that had the feel of a huge action flick coupled the macabre charm and metaphoric content of the great zombie film too.

The third thing that will make A.D. stand apart from zombie films, can’t actually be gathered from the trailer.  In the interview, the team talks about the type of zombies they’ll feature: fast, ravenous zombies or slow, lumbering walls of death.  I love watching both styles of zombies and if you’re like me, you’ll be glad to know they will have both types in A.D.  Haylar states that zombies should move at the pace that they’re current decomposition allows, including their brain functions.  I take this to mean that zombies in A.D. will be able to think, work together, and possibly outsmart their prey which will make for an intriguing film.  Tarik states: The unpredictability of who you’re dealing with makes it way more frightening. I wholeheartedly agree.

Unfortunately, there is no release date given.  However you can see more of Ben Hibon’s earlier work, one of which is a short film called Codehunters, which I’ve embedded below.  I believe A.D. will be a fantastic film and I will post any new information as it becomes available.
